Humorous poem about my dread of grocery shopping.

A father feels miserable doing the grocery shopping for the family.

I was raised in Chicago, Illinois. My mom used to get all the sales papers together from the grocery stores, and then make a list for each store. I would take off then and do the shopping.

It’s near dinner time and there’s no food to be seen
So I’ll grab my grocery bags and buy food for a queen.

This could be the week or the year…just read it as when the resources are slender, and energy at low ebb.

I guess the second one is just for laugh.
The first one may be real?

An unprecedented calamity had finally descended upon the city with the presence of Japanese soldiers, exercising a new set of law and order, alien to those that the people were accustomed to under the British. It marked the beginning of a new, uncertain dawn that ushered in the Rising Sun.

So here it is again–
Almost payday, so the phone begins to ring…
