In light of the recent atrocities in Egypt and elsewhere where buried servicemen’s graves have been vandalized, I wrote this.

What is it to stand through ups and downs, and not falter?

Every other weekend, my boyfriend and I play Airsoft at a field about an hour or two from our home. Although I have played off and on for years now, I don’t really have that seek-and-destroy militant mentality unless someone pisses me off, and the way the guys at this field play is a little more intense. The past few times we’ve gone out to play, I’ve been sick and unable to do much other than reload and play a supporting role to the gunplay. On one of these weekend support trips I wrote the following poem, observing some of those I have met while at the field.

This was written spur of the moment in response to a post on one of the group sites that I belong to on Father’s Day of this year. I have had very good responses from those few that I have chosen to share it with, and it was suggested by a few of them that I might want to share it with others. But I am a somewhat unschooled writer. I write by inspiration alone, inspired by events and people around me, or, as was the case with this story, by something that I have read or heard or even by a random thread of memory. I do not go seeking the words by choice, they simply come of their own accord.
