The distortion of professional journalism has penetrated all levels of society giving its audiences experiences in public relations, news heavily influenced by the military-industrial complex, and having a partisan flavor.

The Golden Age of Journalism in the United States was marked by the investigation of the Kerner Commission on the status of journalism in the lives of minorities. It engineered the collapse of the Nixon presidency while transforming the way the Vietnam War was covered. Many students were bitten by this bug and flocked to journalism schools to hone their skills.
