This is the story of a maidservant who had deposited her hard earned with a wealthy lady as she could not trust her wayward and good-for-nothing husband lurking around to filch whatever she had saved. She kept this money for her son to be admitted in a quality school. But once in need of that money, the wealthy lady ditches her. The veneer of wealth wears off and she is left with no choice but to take the TV set in lieu thereof. This instead of adding to her comfort adds to her misery.
