I wrote this the time when typhoon "Ondoy" was devastating Manila.

Philippines, as a country gets battered by as many as 20 major storms in a year. Mely Teodoro was waiting for her husband Nathaniel Teodoro who had gone in search of a promised truck for them to escape to an evacuation center before the nightfall. Can he reach in time before the water inundates the village, making escape impossible.

Dodong as he is known today (Ciriaco is his true name), a responsible family man, loving husband, a good neighbor, driving a tricycle and a passenger jeep in Pangarap, Caloocan City (a city north of metropolitan Manila, Philippines). What was supposedly a three-hour outing with his four friends and a priest turned out a nightmare, they were washed off to the ocean and had to face a 37-day ordeal on sea. Thanks to the crew of Koyo Maru, a Japanese freighter who saved their lives.
