Poem I wrote for a Veteran’s Day memorial I spoke at.

This is a poem I wrote in 2001 for my poetry unit in middle school. The assignment was to write a poem about picture we were given, it was a picture that portrayed war.

A dream that felt so real it all makes sense.

In the military, there is the land defense, the air defense, the water defense. Therefore, the land, the air and the waters have to be protected. The land, the air and the waters are strategic.

Admiral Chester W. Nimitz called him ‘a fine man, a sterling character, and a great leader, and said, nothing you can say about him would be praise enough. Admiral William L. Calhoun saw him as a cold-blooded fighting fool. Historian Samuel Eliot Morison believed he was one of the greatest fighting and thinking admirals in American naval history.

A poem.

This poem shows the struggle that a husband and wife go through during a military deployment. While the wife is at home trying to hold her head and life together without her husband, the husband has his own struggle of worrying that his wife will turn out like the others and do him wrong while he is deployed, but in the end, they both realize the bond they have is what will pull them through.

About what some army wife’s/girlfriends/husbands/boyfriends may feel when they go to sleep each night without him/her….but in a girls point of view.
