Losing yourself matters if the pain is hidden.

This poem approaches the idea of the unique: when it comes to writing, some say that nothing is new. Everything has been written before, done before, copied before, tried before. I was once told that every poem is a copy, a reissuing, of a million before it. This can sometimes weigh a writer into a lack of motivation and inspiration.

We are, by this message, called to play our own role and not pretend to be like others when we are not.

The Tanka is a longer form of haiku. Here are three inspired (and assigned) from my creative writing class.

I used to think that haikus were boring pieces of writing where very little can be said. My creative writing class proved my theory ridiculous, however.
