Continue ReadingMaung Ba’s decision to get married to Rose had to be shelved for a timebeing. It was a time of anxiety and he wasn’t quite sure what the future would portend. They could be separated under unpredictable circumstances because of the imminent invasion and prospective occupation of Rangoon by the Japanese. His concern for her was such that he felt the necessity of postponing the marriage, suggesting, instead, that she should leave the country. He later changed his mind when she was determined not to leave without him. As tradition demanded, he would have to seek the advice of an astrologer who could suggest an auspicious date for their marriage.
