Sakura (桜) blossoms are flowers from Japanese cherry trees called sakura. They are native to many Far East countries such as China, Korea and Japan. There are over one hundred varieties of the cherry tree in Japan. Many of them are cultivated by humans over the centuries for decorative use. Petal count can range from five, twenty or even hundred petals. Various colors can include white, pink, yellow or green. When a cherry blossom blooms, it signifies that spring is upon us. These are my attempts to capture the beauty and essence of the sakura blossoms in haiku, even though they aren’t true haiku (they’re actually senryu). My apologizes.

Underneath the sakura tree do memories linger, yet fade away. This has been the place of love and beauty, marked by time yet still exquisitely beautiful.

A poem that describes the loss one feels after someone close to them has left this world and moved onto the next.

I’ve decided to invent a form of Haiku that uses English to show meaning with three lines that aren’t in symmetry. It’s a new form of poetry that I think may merge both the Japanese style of poetry and the English style of metaphor wonderfully. I’ve decided to call this style Sakura-Rose for their beauty and difference. Without further adieu, please enjoy this first Sakura-Rose haiku.
