In early November 1984, India witnessed one of the worst communal carnage’s in its history as an independent and democratic nation. This carnage followed the assassination of the then Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi by her own Sikh bodyguards. The carnage that followed was at the time seen as a means of vengeance against the Sikhs. This narration is an attempt to describe one major incident that happened during those very troubled days. I personally am a Sikh and hence it is from a Sikh perspective.

Away from beloved Punjab in Foreign land, the memories of past have faded. Personal friends, and near relations forgotten whilst chasing difficult goals. Those left behind call on to the youngster to beware of the Creator to whom he is answerable. Reminding him to not chase dreams and cheap pleasures as the bride back to Punjab is still strong. Lady friends in Punjab taunt him not to fall for some foreign ladies as they know him well.

Foreign Punjabi worker has worked in Germany for a number of years. When he arrived he was young. He had hoped to return to Punjab. However, this hope has been desperately shattered. He is no longer young and has been trying to survive in the Germany as best as he can. No matter what he does, he faces there is are bounds and limits beyond which he is not allowed. These verses are his struggle to understand how fellow humans cut off others by abrupt inconsiderate negative gestures both physical and unspoken.

Away from Punjab the male Foreign worker in Germany has to survive the separation from his German lady friend with whom he has been having a relationship ever since he arrived in Germany. The essence of Punjab has been captured by using the words to record the musical sounds that a Punjabi Dholl drum makes. In foreign land with no one to turn to but his Punjab and he reminds himself of how lost he has become away from his beloved Punjab.
