Continue ReadingThe swifts are highly aerial birds. They are similar to swallows, but are in the separate order Apodiformes, which they share with hummingbirds.
Swifts and swallows catch insects in flight. The swifts have very short legs which makes it difficult to see their feet. There are a group of swifts called Cave swiflets, a small Asian swift. The nest of swiflets are used to make soup.
Swifts are migratory birds. In the summer, breeding swifts can be found in Spain, Ireland. Siberia and China. North Africa, Israel, Lebanon and Syria, Turkey, Norway, Finland and sub-Arctic Russia also host breeding swifts. They also migrate down to Africa.
