American cowboys are a breed apart, and sometimes have trouble getting along in the world they find themselves thrust into.

I have paraphrased in poetry one of the classic stories from a book of the late Louis L’Amour. I am a great fan of his western books. One thing I like about the stories of L’Amour is that they are not only very entertaining, but they always share a practical philosophy for living.

I am a big fan of the Western books by the late Louis L’Amour. Recently I tried a new experience for me. I took some of the stories from his books and paraphrased them into poems. “Fighting a Bear” is the first poem I wrote in this series. I hope you enjoy it.
