February 5, 2001. This was written by request. Unfortunately, the person who gave me the facts to create this poem requested that his name not be used. He did tell me "why" and requested that also remain private. I admit I do enjoy a challenge when it comes to writing poems.

High on a hillside

stands a lone oak tree

where bear, deer and dog

pay homage to a great tracker and

two hunters.

Side by side their ashes lay

while the hounds reverently bay

in a nearby ravine

leaves flutter from time to time

It is said that the

hunters greet the tracker

once upon a time.

Or could it be

the restless hunters making

their presence known

and the tracker

silently cautions them

to leave the

animals alone.

The bear, deer and hounds

seen kneeling

‘neath the oak

a breeze ruffles the fur on the animals

as if someone’s hand

did stroke

as the animals pay homage

‘neath the great big oak.
