Post-breakup thoughts and feelings.
Just as a broken shell
can appear whole at the right angle
I can appear well
While my feelings are in a tangle
The tears have slowed and dried
There’s little evidence I cried
I can drag myself from bed
And force a smile in the day ahead
I’ll be pleasant and polite
And at a glance I am alright
But the healing is superficial
And beneath the surface lies a chasm
A piece of me is missing
My heart aches, each beat a spasm
I drift through weeks unaware
Void of life
Suspended and propelled
In waves of despair
