My place of residence is located not far from a Buddhist centre – daily they place a particular type of rice on the pavement outside their steps, as it is their belief that every creature on this planet is a direct decedent of them. So in feeding the birds they are in turn feeding their relatives. I got thinking one day that if they continue feeding these rather delicate birds stodgy clumps of rice, they would become unable to find their freedom.

Adorn

In the hope of appeasing their gods,
The pavement is adorned with white clumps of rice –
Unintentionally filling the bird’s stomach with a lead balloon.
Disables their dreams of freedom.
