Homage to the cashier.

With a single sleigh of
hand you raid
the secrets of banks, and
credit cards, you, champion
of capital gains,
beautiful sentinel of
variegated supermarkets
and stores; caring keeper
of shelved furrows of
a thousand products, joy,
and candy: I salute you,
for you speak of money
with unusual kindness.
Blessed heroine
of children, whose
shiny smiles you have
learnt to treasure, you are
the stout and willful,
the artisan of an
egregious, faithful work.

Thank you for giving homage to those so many people take for granted.
