Felines are furry friends.

Fuzz ball’s kinda cute
As a new born
Still sweet
Helpless
Wide eyed and designed to tug
At heartstrings.
Stretched claws are
Cool
Reminiscent of ancient beasts
You think,
“I’d take a pair of those.”
At the zoo ancestral models
Leap stories high
And you can’t help
But marvel,
Wide-eyed and desiring same strength,
At once was and
Yet is now
Caged…
Tamed.
We might remember
In the recesses of brain folds
Once reserved for lizard kin
The predatory will
Of Mr. Snugglepoo.
Perhaps
We smile
When pets purr
Because we’ve found comfort
That our spears and fire
Put a leash on that
Which crept
In shadow
Once.
But what anger is it
When we find that piss has
Covered our bed sheets
And filled up the planter?
Is this the last
Calculated
Attack
That
A once noble hunter
Can wage?
Am I furious at this feline
Because my pillow is ruined?
Or is it
A matter of feeling,
Sensing,
That a battle has been lost
When the war’s
Already won?
Either way I’m more of a dog person.
