A diary from Michael Cuffs written during World Was II starting from the 1939 up to 1960.

November 1939

I just bought my new diary I think I might use it monthly.  I’ve had a very good month my dad’s gotten a greater rank at the army and I’ve had a great starting for the semester this year.

December 1939

The War started 3 months ago and my bro’s gotten unbeatable at the skies. My father continues making a great job with boats. During the first week of the month I saw a glass furniture for just 1 dollar HOW GREAT IS THAT!!I’ll give it to my grandma for Christmas when I get enough money , for my dad I’ll think on a special gift , and to my brother I’ll give him some wooden airplanes for just   27c both. Now it’s Christmas my grandma LOVES her gift, my brother is always trying to build his airplane but dad hasn’t come yet.

January 1940

A new year, a new beginning.  This month I met this BEAUTIFUL girl at school I didn’t really realize before she was there since she’s one grade above me. I don’t really know what to do I don’t really manage to see her daily probably since we take different routes to school.

February-March 1940

I had a very bad valentine’s day; I was so sick I couldn’t go to school and spent some time with …  March what can I say , I just don’t REALLY manage to talk to her yet , my dad says I should get to know her somehow more.

April-May-June 1940

My brother’s birthday was great we had some much fun at the party now he’s 17 years old Much more than me. Now it’s summer no school!!For summer we’ll spent a few days at Lake Michigan , just to have some fun.

September 1940

There are 2 news one’s good the other isn’t. Bad news: I’m back to school.
Good news: I can see Isabel once again at school.

I’m trying to actually hang out , talk with her between  different periods , during lunch whatever I just want  to BE with her SPEND time with her  now.

October 1940

I’m now trying to make it, to reach my goal, to talk with her; I don’t really want to leave it just like if it wasn’t important because I know it IS.

November 1940

My brother got badly injured during direct combat. I don’t really think he should get back on flight now.

December 1940

I’ve received news, my brother’s so stubborn he got back on flight, his airplane luckily has a soft grounding and near a US Army military base. My father was told he should take him to Central Canada where he could be safer and have special care, BUT that would mean I must go with them leaving everything I got here; neighbors, friends, myschool, and the worst thing that I’ll lose: Isabel…

January 1941

I’m trying to get close with Isabel now that I know this are my last months here.
I just can’t manage talking to her but what can I say

I feel as if always there was something that couldn’t let me talk to her.

February 1941

My last month around here so I will talk to her.

I did it I did talk to her probably now is too late for that but maybe

I can convince my father to leave me here with my grandma, maybe that way I could start socializing more with Isabel.

March 1941

I’d manage to stay my dad told me I could finish the semester but after that I must go back with him.

March 27, 1941

I’ll ask Isabel if we could have a date or something tomorrow.

March 28, 1941

She said……………………YES!!!!
Now there’s only 1 BIG problem because my father isn’t here I need o save money to go with him to Canada
so I don’t have spare cash to use on the date…

April 1941

Well the date didn’t go THAT bad as I thought it was goingto be , we walked through the park and those nice places around,we hanged out with some friends that encountered us close by and we spent a great time together

May 1941

Now we spent more time together we date more often although sometimes we’re limited to talk to each other at the park.

May 26, 1941

Today we had a date, just like any other, but the unique and special difference was that once we were about to go inside her house…she kissed me that was ehm unexpected but she did.

June 1, 1941

Isabel went to my locker before the 3rd period she told me she was really going to miss me, and although we couldn’t say it was a Long relationship, and although she will start dating other people, she would always remember me.

June 15, 1941

This is my last day at school tomorrow I’ll meet Isabel for a last time and after that I’ll leave.
My grandma gave enough money to cover the complete trip.

June 16, 1941

I’d met Isabel we exchanged signatures with each other and after that I kissed her, and left.

August 1960

I’m older now I’d told everyone I was going to keep this book at all time, I managed to find myself with Isabel some years ago, we dated again sometime, and now we’re married…
