My dream of a more peaceful world.

When I see the news on TV,
Showing death and destruction through war.
I wonder do they know themselves,
What it is their fighting for.
Leaders send us into battle,
Then try to justify the reasons why,
But what do you tell a parent
Why their son or daughter had to die.
When last night I saw them all talking
And agreeing to disagree.
And friendship had taken the place,
Of where hatred used to be.
Then as men threw aside their weapons,
And one time enemy’s shook hands and laughed out loud.
I saw the sky above so blue,
Where the bombs had once made it a black cloud.
My joy was suddenly interrupted,
As I awoke from what it would seem,
Was merely wishful thinking,
Whilst asleep having a lovely dream.
