The plan of a local government, brought to you by a Michigan author.
Virg Bernero was a Senator when he introduced a bill on January 26, 2005, to prohibit the sale or distribution of “junk food” in public schools and charter schools. This bill contains definitions of what foods are prohibited.
Some people nod in agreement when the government makes an approach such as this, responding that kids eat enough junk food at home. These people want the name brand cola machines out of the school. But they don’t want to stop there. They also want the administration stopped from ordering pizza into the cafeteria and all future fast-food stops on the children’s return from a field trip.
Many school boards complain about kids being too fat, and Diabetes in kids is higher than it’s ever been. These same people want to stop the so called laziness and bring back cafeteria workers who know how to cook instead of simply calling for carry-out.
Personally, if you want my honest opinion, if they can’t even balance a budget, they need to do a better job in figuring out where their priorities lie. My child’s diet should be my responsibility and my responsibility alone. The government as a whole has gotten too powerful for its own good. They sit in these meetings before the American flag and it’s all become some sort of sick joke. Recently, in a low income area of Lansing, Michigan, petitions were thouroughly IGNORED by Virg Bernero to take down these cameras that sit high above the streets.
These schools are burdened enough without having the government slapping their wrists for things the parent should be controlling. Wouldn’t you rather have your tax dollars hard at work fixing the economy bringing in new jobs instead of letting them all go overseas? It’s ridiculous to the point of getting depressed over how poorly our country is being run.
Truth be told, they’re meddling if you want me to be black and white about it. You can pass it off that it’s not such a big deal, and go ahead if you feel so inclined. But do yourself a favor and see the big picture. They’re taking over every aspect of your life. These traffic cameras that ‘watch for drunk drivers’ are soon (if not already) going to be aimed into your windshield with digital clarity. From blinking to applying lipstick, they’re watching you. It’s not going to stop.
At first glance, it looks like he’s trying to do us a great deal of good. And maybe it is if you’re seeing it that way. But to me, it’s just a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It’s just more creative ways to pull the wool over the citizens eyes.
If my daughter or son has money in their pocket, it’s because I put it there. If I tell my daughter she can have a Pepsi, I don’t want the government telling me I can’t. Pretty soon, you’re going to give up all your rights and freedoms and wonder where they went. Bush and Cheney have pretty much defiled the whole Constitution, after all. Somehow, they managed a second term.
I know that the beverage companies are smart people and peddle soft drinks to my children. I also know that the government plays “House” with big oil. There are deeper issues at hand, folks. They just keep playing the game of government, and like sheep, we keep following the shepherd.
Here’s a question for you: What would be the decision on fundraising candy sales? They gonna kill those too? Does the government get any kickback from such sales? Because if not, they can ban those at the drop of a hat too. And they will. Pizza sales? Kiss them goodbye. That trip to Europe with your Senior Class? Pay for it yourself.
My daughter (who is due to arrive in Mid-December) is going to be raised to make good choices. The state of Michigan does not have to decide for them, nor do I feel they have the right to do so.
Our unemployment rate is at an all time low and they’re pissing and moaning about fast food and soda pop? Give me a break! This Administration is absolutely disgusting and anyone who can’t see it likely is either blind or stupid.
How much time do our legislators spend on projects like these, compared to the time and money they could be spending on bringing back the economy and caring about the jobs we’re losing to China and Mexico? The government YOU, John Q. Worker, continue to vote for is bending you over each and every time.
We must love it, folks. We ask to have our gas prices lowered, and they laugh in our faces. We ask politely for no new taxes and wind up with egg on our face. Do we have anyone in government we can trust?
The answer is no. Obama’s going to be garbage just as much as McCain. You know it and I know it. The better thing to do would be to vote for someone else. Truth of the matter is, we’re screwed no matter how you roll the dice.
By the way, the Mayan Apocalypse is Dec. 21, 2012. Have a nice day.
