I often wonder what heaven is
Where and why it is there
The purpose it serves, if at all
And why we should beware

Is it up yonder or down below
In remote corners of the world
Deep beneath the deepest seas
Or in the realms of another world

A Shangri-la of immeasurable wealth
Is it a haven of undiminishing beauty
A reservoir of eternal peace
Tranquillity spirituality and purity

Is it a place of absolute splendour
Where everything’s as calm as can be
No yesterdays, tomorrows or todays
Where everything’s as perfect as can be

A universal place, is it there for all
Or is it the domain of the chosen few
Who it’s for and who it isn’t for
I would like to know from you

A physical existence in a material frame
Or is it some kind of metaphysical plane
Can we access it with this physique
Or do we have to be born again

An oasis in a desert-like world
Is it the answer to every dream
An ideal sanctuary of perfection
The souls, is it there to redeem

I think it’s here there and everywhere
It’s within us and also within out
If we all just learn to unlock it
Is celestial bliss there without a doubt

A key is what we have to look for
From the one and only holy locksmith
To enable us to open the door to heaven
Equipoise beyond superstition and myth
