Scene 1

(Scene opens)

Side of the audience. Catherine with a bag, walking with her head held up high and taking long strides. Jack who is behind her is with her suitcase and with is and is trying to catch up with her. He finally does and it’s out of breath.)

Jack: Miss Stephenson, do you know that CLS are top of the chart now?

Catherine: yes, I know that jack.

Jack: isn’t that awesome? We’ve finally shown Lara Whitney and her company were they belong in the business society.

Catherine (smiling): yes jack, we did. What did Lara think; that she can go against me and win

Jack: she can’t win because it’s you against her Ms Stephenson and you are smart and clever.

Catherine: very nice of you to say that Jack and now about Lara, she still has a chance of bringing her company back on her track. We have to pull that company down the drain Jack because no company, absolutely no company can beat the CLS worldwide. Not if I can help it.

Jack: yes that’s right Ms Stephenson. So do you have any plans?

Catherine: of course I do. I always have plans. I’ll tell you when we are inside the office and safe from those spies.

Jack: yes madam. It’s quite surprising that Lara knew the rules and refused to play by them.

Catherine: well she’s to blame for everything that happens cause if you don’t play by my rules or play games with me; you’ll regret it.

(Goes on stage landing. People formally dressed carrying files and going about. Janet Garton is seated on her chair and is answering a phone call. Writes down the name etc on a gold notebook just before Catherine and Jack come on stage. She nods at Jack and smiles at Catherine.)

Janet: hello ms Stephenson. Did you have a good weekend?

Catherine: yes I did Janet and you?

Janet: yes thank you. I had friends around, tom came round too. We had some drinks and then we started pl….

(Catherine raises up an eyebrow and Janet recollects herself.)

Janet: sorry madam. My bad!

Catherine: yes your bad. (Changes tone and look at Janet.) Any important phone calls for me?

Janet: yes Ms Stephenson. There are about 70 calls this morning but 26 of them are important. I thought that you can look at the non – important ones at your free time.

Catherine: send in the important ones to my office Janet.

Janet: yes Miss Stephenson.

Catherine: I would like some coffee too.

Janet: one coffee coming up.

Catherine: if you ever say that again Janet, you will find yourself back at the job center is that clear.

Janet: yes Ms Stephenson.

Catherine: you want some coffee jack?

Jack: yes please.

Janet: milky jack?

Jack: yes thank you.

Janet: the way you like it Ms Stephenson?

Catherine: what other way? Come on jack.

(Curtain closes with Janet going to get some coffee.)

(Opens in Catherine’s office. Laptop, chairs, purple light (back ground, bright.)

(Catherine goes to sit at the chair while Jack makes himself comfortable on the chairs downstage. Carefully picks up a magazine as is reading through it when there is a sudden gasp made by Catherine. Quickly turns around. Lightning changes to red. Catherine stands up, fuming and turns to jack.)

Jack: Ms Stephenson, is there anything wrong?

Catherine: (loudly and sternly) I want that cow Fiona in my office this minute.

Jack: yes madam.

(Jack goes off stage.)
