Just a small bit of writing I did while in a seminar at Hiram.

Part One

“Ah, crap!” I said as my heavy backpack fell with a thud on my foot.  I hopped up and down as I picked up the offending object, muttering a few choice words.  I was cleaning my room because my older sister Leia was coming to town for a couple of weeks, and guess where she was staying? Being the younger sister wasn’t the coolest, and this was no exception.  I had to bunk on the couch for the time they were there.  I wasn’t too enthusiastic, because first of all, Leia was seven years older than me and already married, so she felt that she had to treat me as if I were younger every time she stayed with us.  And her husband, Jim, was a MAJOR boringass who couldn’t think of anything more fun than sit around in a stuffy office and balance a checkbook. Grumbling to myself, I sat down on the bed and recalled a couple of weeks ago, when my best friends Jess, Lauren, Amber and Kayla had snuck out of school to meet the Vampire Diaries cast at the mall.  Unfortunately, we’d gotten busted by Lauren’s mom, who’d been there to get autographs for us.  My parents had grounded me for two weeks, and I was really looking forward to my new bout of freedom.  I had just gotten invited to a party at Lydia McDonnell’s house, and this was a big deal for me.  Lydia McDonnell was the most popular girl in school, but she was friendly-popular, not mean-popular.  Amber knew Lydia from drama club, and Lydia had invited our whole group to go to her party.  So I was not looking forward to Leia’s visit at all.

My mom knocked on my door and shouted, “Skye, are you almost done in your room? Leia’s going to be here any minute!”

“Oh, joy,” I muttered under my breath, taking my headphones off from around my neck.

“What was that?” My mom fixed me with a sharp glare.

“Nothing, never mind, forget I said anything,” I grinned falsely and scooted downstairs.
