The story about the revolt that Boudicca led against the Romans.

Boudicca was married to the king of the Iceni tribe in East England named Prasutagus.  During the year 43 CE, Roman soldiers took over Britain.  Along with most of the Celtic tribes inside Britain.  The Romans let only two of the Celtic kings to remain as king; one of the kings was Prasutagus which is Boudicca’s husband.  Prasutagus made a loan (which he thought was a grant, wrong!), but Prasutagus died in 60 CE before he paid back his debt to the Romans.  So he let Nero the Emperor have half of his kingdom to pay back the debt he owed, but when the Romans came to get the land they took the whole kingdom.  They also beat Boudicca, and raped her two daughters.

So Boudicca met with the Iceni leaders and planned to revolt against the Romans.  Then Boudicca led about 100,000 British to attack at Camulodunum a Roman city and burned the city to the ground.  After that she led them to attack London and also burned the city to the ground along with killing 25,000 people who wouldn’t leave London.  Then Boudicca led her revolt to Verulamium and destroyed that city.  Boudicca was counting on conquering the Roman food depot, but they burned that down also.  At last Boudicca fought one more battle in an unknown place.  Her army fell short and was defeated; Boudicca’s army was just too weak and tired to fight.  So Boudicca then fled home to her kingdom, where she committed suicide by drinking poison.

Interesting! I knew nothing of Boudicca before. Thanks for the information.

There was a documentary from the BBC, last year, THE BATTLES OF BRITAIN – which outlined Boudica’s final battle. The Romans had the strategic advantage and were more organised.

    Thanks great read . j
