The work of an Ant is never done.
During the summer, the Ant worked very hard storing up supplies for the winter. The Grasshopper lazed in the sun. When Winter came, the Grasshopper starved. The Ant was arrested and charged for depraved indifference.
Why is it Ant’s fault that Grasshopper starved to death?
Excuse me, you say, that’s not part of the story. No. It’s part of life. Real Life.
Ants, those people who work and save, and make preparations are to feel responsible for Grasshoppers, those who don’t work, don’t save, and make no preparations for anything.
Ants stay home so as to save up for the day they can buy their own home. Grasshoppers won’t let a single fete miss them. Ants wear the same clothes day after day to save for their education or something major. Grasshoppers spend every cent they get on clothes and bling and showing off.
Ants get any job they can, work as hard as they can, so that one day they can get a good job. Grasshoppers don’t take any job requiring much work. They have too much “pride” to work for “monkey money.”
Ants have only the children they can afford. Grasshoppers breed child after child and make it Ant’s problem.
When “winter” comes, Grasshoppers expect Ants to look after them. They resent the fact Ant has two loaves of bread and they have none. Grasshoppers see it as ‘justice’ to take away Ant’s bread.
As there are a lot of Grasshoppers who believe the world owes them a living, Ants must be very careful not to be victimised. Ants must not only work, but work at protecting what they worked for. Ants must also be prepared for a big pile of Guilt being laid at their well repaired doors, as it is somehow their fault that Grasshoppers are lazy.
It is one thing when disaster strikes and many Ants are suddenly left with nothing. It is another when Grasshoppers laze in the sun because they know they can rely on Ant to take care of them.
