The story of a rusty old nail.

I was walking along with my Dad one day, when he bent down and picked up something. Being curious I asked: “Dad, what did you find?” He answered with a simple reply: “an old rusty nail”. Then he began to telling me the story of the nail. Son, this isn’t just an old rusty nail. Because this nail represents the nail they drove into the hands and feet of Jesus our Savior. This particular nail served it’s purpose for a good long while until it rusted and couldn’t hold anything together anymore. But the nail that was driven into the hands and feet of Jesus, keeps us nailed to the cross daily. This nail reminds me that Jesus hung on the cross to shed His precious blood, to suffer and die on the cross for you and me. He did not only bleed and die on the cross, but they buried Him in a tomb and on the third day, He arose for you and me.

This nail is a reminder of His Marvelous Love and His Amazing Grace He gives to us. The nail represents the life – life in Christ. So, you see son, the nail that held Jesus hands and feet to the cross, couldn’t hold Him on the cross. His tomb couldn’t hold Him and Death couldn’t and His resurrection gives us hope and faith and keeps us nailed to the cross. His bones were never broken and with nails in His hands and feet, His head hung down, His knees bent, gives us a picture, that we should always be nailed to the cross on our knees, our head bowed and our mind always on Him. Someday, He will return and when He does, He wants to find us nailed to the cross, a new heart, a renewed mind and a prayer on our lips and our eyes always looking for Him. This is my reminder and when He returns, I will exchange this nail for a touch of my Savior’s hand and feel the scars where my sins were nailed to that cross with “just an old rusty nail”.
