All about Lovebirds:
Hello. You must be interested in Lovebirds, or want to know what they are. Lovebirds are a type of pet bird. They are basically a very small version of parrots. Lovebirds make very good pets because they love attention, and they love others. With experience, i can only say this for male lovebirds because the females are slightly more aggressive during egg laying. It is a myth that Lovebirds should be kept in pairs, but i’m saying from experience, BUY IN PAIRS. When females are alone, they tend to lay eggs rapidly. My female layed about 25 eggs this year already; this is not healthy. During summer, she became ill with egg binding. this is when the Lovebird does not have enough energy to push the egg out. this lead to pools of blood at the bottom of her cage. we had to pay about $600 to get a vet to look at her and give her treatment. were were lucky she lived through this. there was also the option of surgery, which would have cost us $1500 on top of what we paid. the vet said that it was because we were feeding her seeds. i recommend NEVER GIVE BIRDS SEEDS. there are no nutrients; instead, buy pellets. pellets are made for birds, not just picked up in fields like seeds are. the vet also said that there are things promoting her to lay eggs. this included giving her paper. when she got a hold of anything paper (books, bus tickets, homework…) she would shred it and take it to the bottom of her cage, trying to make a nest. we had also bought her something called a Happy Hut. it was like a fuzzy tent for her to sleep in. she loved it, but it was apparently she thought it was a nest. after about a week in the hospital, she came home fine. the vet said to keep the eggs in until she gave up with them. he also gave use calcium to put in the water to help her push eggs out. we took everything out, and now she is slowly laying less eggs, although this last time, she was sitting on her eggs for almost a month and a half. what can i say, she is determined. sadly for her, i had to through them away because they were breaking now and getting her dirty. at the moment, she somehow found paper and is trying to make a new nest. since i do not have a male, i have have only heard that they are the best out of the two sexes. they do not bite as much as the female, and seem to be a bit more loving. overall, i would not trade my female lovebird for any other type of bird, or sex.
