About an unruly inmate.

This material is of my own work. Any resemblance to actual events or location or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental. Names and places are not listed in my Prison Tales stories, if there are any actual events or location or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental and is made up or fictitious.

We had not long finished feeding and started taking up food treys from the individual cells. As I opened an inmate’s food flap to retrieve his tray he threw a cup of urine and feces on me. I always made the inmates go to the back of the cells before I open the food flaps, but he had his cup hidden where I couldn’t see it. I was lucky I always bring an extra set of uniforms in case something like this happens, plus we never know just how long we will be staying at work.

After changing cloths I consulted with my dorm supervisor on how he wanted to handle the situation, As usual he past the responsibility onto me. I decided the strip the inmate of all his belonging for several days and leave him with nothing but a suicide blanket. I then order a nutria- loaf for his meals for the next 7 days. A nutria-loaf is nothing but whatever the kitchen cooked the day before made into a bread loaf. This was some very nasty food, He was also not to receive any cups or food trays because he would use them to store his body fluids. This meant his meals would be served on a paper towel.

I went back down to the inmates cell one more time to see if he would cooperate with the officers when we stripped him of his belonging, of course his chest blew up like a balloon and he demanded we has to come in to get it.

It didn’t take long for my team of five officers to suit up for the cell extraction team. My Lieutenant attempted to talk me out of being the lead man entering the cell. I always felt it was my duty as sergeant to lead by example so I was going in first. Not to mention I didn’t want any of my men getting injured during the extraction.

The inmate was angry because I had taken away his one-hour recreation time away earlier when he wasn’t in dorm compliance. This is also a normal occurrence in prison. Some inmates think they can have their own rules.

After suiting up in my extraction uniform of a helmet, a gas mask, and  body padding, I went to the inmate’s cell one last time. What he didn’t know was that I was also getting the team near his door. I had to crack his door just a little to try and talk to him when he shot me with a toothpaste tube full of feces. I’d had enough. I filled his cell with pepper gas and had the Lieutenant to open the inmate’s door. Through my experience on the shield I knew right where to hit him. I drove the edge of my shield under his chin slamming him to the ground like Goldberg in the WWF. The remaining four officers restrained the inmate. I didn’t know I had knocked him out until afterward. I secured my retrieval chain to his restraints and lead him to the shower to try and get some of the gas of off him. Officers are mandated to do this when we use gas. The officers searched his cell and stripped the cell empty. He received nothing but the suicide blanket and loaf for 7 days. It only took a couple of weeks before he started acting out again. Some people never learn.

Your good at telling storys nice job.

  • Moron Savant on Feb 15, 2009

is this your personal experience? or you’re just telling a story in the first person account?
the story is well said. quite graphic. but it’s an obvious violation of human rights of the prisoner — gassing him up? depriving him of food? stripping his cell bare?

You should write a book about the diary of a prison guard.

  • Ruby Hawk on Feb 15, 2009

You don’t have to tell me your stories are true.I’ve heard the same stories from people who work at prisons. What I can’t understand is why the prisoners do these things. It gets them nothing but trouble. They must know they can’t win.I guess it’s the same thing that gets them in prison in the first place.

I really enjoy following up your cell stories, kinda hard for you to observe patience during these unruly situations. good thing though that you came out on every scrimmage safe.

I don’t think that people who work in the prison system get near enough credit for what they have to go through. So Thank you from me for being willing to work under those kind of conditions and for taking that kind of abuse so we can feel a little safer.
As for Moron Savant….perhaps after having some urine and feces flung on him a few times, he might be a little less concerned about the poor prisoners rights.

Wow, if I had your job I think I’d have a really hard time forcing myself to go to work. Sounds like it doesn’t bother you much. Different strokes for different folks. You do have great stories as a result. You’re a good writer and I assume a good prison guard as well.

    For Moron Savant
These are my personal experiences and my actions are all legal within the penal system and the civil rights act. What I must explain is that I delt with mostly inmates with a life sentence, some had 999 year sentences for murder, rape, lenching and sodimising. Not to mention all of them had assaults on offivers or other inmates. Most of them with multiple counts. These guys only know the life they lead. They know they will be stripped naked and only eat nuttria-loaf and they accept that. They know exactly what they are doing, they are only looking for someone to let them get away with it. As far as gassing inmates, it is not a lethal dose.I used only enough to gain control of the inmate without getting myself or my crew hurt. By the way I never wear a mask when I’m gasing someone so I am gasses with them, but I learned to deal with it. Some of these inmates can eat this pepper spray for lunch. Before I can use gas on someone I must first be gasses myself in training. Thank you for reading my work, Lee

Very hard line of work, but always a fascinating read when told by one who experiences it on a daily basis. God bless you.

  • S A JOHNSON on Feb 17, 2009

You know some people like to be treated that way and sometimes they think that it’s funny to do what they do even when they do get in trouble because they know they will get a reaction.
