A fairy tale I had to write for math. It’s a lot better with the visual aid, but I think it’s still alright.

Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess named Orchid who fell in love with a poor knight named Cedric Flannoy.

This unusual couple were frowned upon by the community, especially by princess Orchid’s father, the king. He told his daughter often that her choice in a husband was ridiculous; he told her that she should marry a rich prince. Perhaps, you may think this too. But keep in mind that love is ridiculous. Love does not discriminate.

Therefore, the couple married and ran off into the forest, far away from the villager’s scorn.

All was well for a long time. There were hardly any problems that couldn’t be sorted out, and Cedric and Orchid lived in peace. However, one day there was a problem that couldn’t be solved.

A vicious dragon was flying over the land, looking for the poor to torment and the rich to steal from when he came across an unusual sight. A princess, as bright and beautiful as the sun, running through a swamp. What’s this?

Thought the dragon, gliding over the trees and watching the girl in wonder. She skipped and jumped over fallen logs, her movements graceful. Already the cunning dragon was deciding how best to steal her without alerting the prince she belonged to. But before we inform you what the dragon’s decision was, you must understand something.

This evil creature was brought up in a world of darkness and cold. As soon as he saw this shimmering maiden, he became aware of what he truly thirsted for. Light. And, don’t you think that everyone- no matter how evil- is entitled to some light?

The dragon had decided. He would have to make the girl come with him willingly. Surely the prince wouldn’t follow them if it was the princess’s choice to leave. Satisfied, the dragon swooped down from the tree without a second thought. The princess was even prettier up close, even as she jumped back in shock.

“Good evening,” the dragon said, his voice impossibly charming.

Princess Orchid made a small sound, unsure of what to say. The dragon chuckled.

“So, what is a princess such as yourself doing in these dangerous woods?”

Orchid finally found her voice.

“How do you know who I am?” She demanded. The dragon chuckled.
