A true tale of the wild side.

I was just thinking the other day about how an old friend of mine used to carry his drums around in his car. Keep in mind that he wasn’t really a drummer, but he could kind of almost do it.

True Craziness

Anyhow, I was trying to find him so I headed over to his girlfriend’s house. I went to her house and it was like barely morning. The sun was just starting to come up. We had pulled an all-nighter. All-nighters were not unusual for me 15 years ago. They happened often. I get to the house and before I could even get to the door I could hear this drum beat coming from somewhere. Symbols and all. Very strange on a weekday at like 6:30 or 7:00 in the morning.

A Sign Form Somewhere

The sound seemed to be coming from the church across the road.

I was drawn to the sound as if though it were some type of sign. After all, I went to Sunday school classes at this church when I was like 6. One more thing you need to realize about the church where this early morning beat came from, is that the church sat about 35 to 45 feet higher in elevation than my pal’s girlfriend’s house, so all I could do was hear the noise and not actually see it’s source. I look across the street and see a path leading up to the church parking lot. I hoofed it up the steep embankment and to my surprise, as the drums got louder, there he was, a madman out in the open about 10 feet from his car. The friend I was trying to find. His drum set was fully set up and he was going to town on those things. I asked him how he was doing and what he was doing.

Not Strange Back Then

He didn’t really seemed dazed by the fact I thought it a bit strange that he was in the middle of a church parking lot in the middle of a residential neighborhood beating away at the drums. Did I mention it was in the summer time at sunrise?

He seemed so carefree, that I asked him if he minded if I played for awhile. So I did. Then we packed the drums back into the car and that is that.

More To Come

This is just a short snip-it of the past and the tales I have to tell. There will be more stories and they will be interesting as well as intriguing.
