A fairytale, satire on the state of our country.

Once upon a time there was a village that was so beautiful and full of natures bounties. It was a village where a man could live in peace and be free from tyranny So great was the village that others flocked from around the world to live and seek there fortune. They came too. to drink from it’s well of freedom which sat with glory in the center of the village.

The villagers were very, very proud of their village. They were especially proud of the well keepers. The well keepers who were chosen by their fellow villagers to protect the water in the well. All the citizens of the village knew without the well that their village could not survive.

The well keepers worked very hard for they too loved the village. At times they disagreed with each other about who needed more water and who could do with less. Yet they worked diligently together to solve their differences. They knew the fate of the village depended on them, and for more than two hundred years the village thrived..

Then came the great drought and the water level in the well began to dry up. The villagers became very frightened, and many were angry. How could such a thing happen. “It must be the fault of the well keepers some proclaimed” Others pointed at each other, claming some were to greedy and drank more than their share.

. The well keepers from the west said their villagers needed more water for their troughs were already dry and their crops were dying.

The well keepers from the east said give us more for without the water our factories will close.

The well keepers from the north they were confused, for without the factories they could not work, and without the crops they could not eat. Yet they feared that the well would run dry if any got more.

The well keepers from the south who’s number were fewer were angry, they had no ear for their fellow well keepers. They spoke untruths, as they sought to undermine the credibility of the chief well keeper.

Then the fateful day arrived, the villagers woke up to find that alas the well of liberty had been poisoned. The villagers and the well keepers alike were shocked and sad. “Who could have done this terrible act” they wailed.

Sadly, now the villagers lost their pride, and the well keepers their respect.

For the greatest village ever had been destroyed by the very thing that had made it great.
