This will either land me a job in the C.I.A. or F.B.I. most wanted list.
Either way I win.
I am 19 years old, born in the United States, raised in Puerto Rico (still makes me an American citizen), fully bi-lingual, and currently studying at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. I have lived in various places, fifteen in all, spanning North America, South America, and parts of Canada. Mother is Catholic and Father Jewish, I was raised for the first two years of my life in Boston. My parents met at BU, my mother comes from a fully Puerto Rican family, but she was born in Pennsylvania, three weeks later moved down to live with the rest of the family. My father Venezuelan, born and raised. Put that all together and they had me, the whitest looking kid you have ever seen, with bright green eyes, and an equivalent American and Spanish accent depending on which I speak.
Which makes me ask….What the heck am I???
Technically I would be American because I was naturally born in the U.S. of A, but I was raised in Puerto Rico, my mother basically on the same boat here because of the whole Pennsylvania-Puerto Rico thing. My father well he is Venezuelan so that makes me half Venezuelan? But here is the thing, I learned Spanish before I learned English, watched T.V. in Spanish before English. Somehow out of this whole mess I ended up with absolutely no hint of Spanish in my English, and no English in my Spanish. As for my parents, well lets just say my parents think this is all “berrry funi.”
Nahum mom and dad, “not very funny” at all.
