A fossilized bone of the leg, recovered from Ethiopia shows that our human ancestors walked upright 3.2 million years ago, according to a study published Thursday in Science magazine.
Rocks, a metatarsal (fourth), belongs to the group of hominids which includes the famous Lucy, and indicates that Australopitecii afarensis had arched feet.
These findings are the first to demonstrate how these human ancestors walked, according to RedOrbit.
“This is only the fourth metatarsal, which belongs to the A. afarensis and is a key evidence for the early evolution and uniqueness of human walking, ” said study co-author William Kimbel, Arizona State University.
This study helps resolve the debate between A. afarensis paleoantropologii they thought went well and that people who believed that this species practice a form of locomotion which is located somewhere between four-legged bipezii climb trees and land.
