It is a well-known fact that Wernher von Braun, the Nazi V-2 Rocket scientist was given the opportunity to work at NASA where he was afforded the title of a hero.  His involvement as a Nazi scientist, engaged in the nefarious activities of the Third Reich was regrettably swept under the rug, in spite of his intention to cause widespread mayhem by the use of such a weapon against the allies.  It was an unthinkable double standard that was deliberately taken lightly.

Wernher von Braun was given a hero’s welcome, unjustified and undeserved. His role as a fanatical Nazi scientist was totally overlooked.  Prior to the end of World War II, Hitler was desperate to interrupt the momentum of his losses and was frantically hopeful that he might succeed in doing so with the help of Wernher von Braun. 

Wernher von Braun’s  role as an ardent Nazi scientist was overlooked, particularly when it was well-known that concentration camp prisoners were used to build the V-2 factory where they were engaged in assembling the rockets. In the process of assembling the weapons, it was estimated that about 10,000 prisoners were killed because of sudden explosions as well as from beatings and starvation.  All this, took place under the supervision of the scientist  himself.

Ignoring facts of history, in order to consummate benefits, derived from the services of a despicable Nazi scientist, is not only blatantly immoral, but also in contravention of the principles of justice that demanded retribution, no less that the heinous acts of other Nazi perpetrators.

According to a detailed report issued by the National Air and Space Museum Curator, by the name of Michael Neufeld, the total disregard to include Wernher von Braun on the list of countless Nazis, directly or indirectly involved in mass murders, should serve as a blemish on our system of democracy itself, which, in this particular instance, was linked to the space program, resulting in the elevation of a Nazi war criminal.
