A simple experiment and how one is to set up an experiment.
Introduction: My group and I were proving which brand of paper towels is the best at holding weight. I thought that the Pure Power was going to hold the most weight because it looked thick and sturdy.
Methods and Procedures: First we pulled two tables together to put the paper towel across and put two or three books on each side. We each put pressure on the books so they wouldn’t fall. We put the weight on the paper towel and saw how much it could hold. My group used three paper towels. We used the Mardi Gras, Pure Power, and Bounty. We used about 3000 grams of weights.
Experiment:
Type Trial 1 Trial 2
Mardi Gras 1200 g 1000g
Pure Power 950g 1000g
Bounty 2520g 2500g
Conclusion: My Group found out that Bounty was the best paper towel to hold weight. The material was better weaved together and it was also softer. My hypothesis was not correct, as I guessed Pure Power to be the strongest. Pure Power was thick, but it stretched too much from the weights and a hole formed in the paper towel. Because we had to share weights in our lab, we didn’t get done as much as I hoped too. If I did this experiment again I would put a little water on the paper towel first. If you try this experiment, don’t let any of the weights fall on anything.
