My opinion about one of my pet peeves.

Each person has pet peeves something that just annoys you. One of my pet peeves is misspelled words. I have always been a person who liked to read. When I find a misspelled word it seems to throw the whole sentence off. To me when something is full of words spelled wrong it is hard to read.

I know in some schools spelling is not a required part of learning. A few of my children’s teachers say they don’t spell very well.  Several people I know do not know how to spell. People with excellent jobs.

I know in this day and age of spell checks it is deemed unnecessary to know how to spell yet, if you are unable to spell how can you know which word is the correct word.

With people creating so many documents and correspondence typos are a very normal part of life, usually of course we try to correct the typos.

I am not saying people misspell words on purpose, nor am I putting anybody down who has difficulty spelling, it just seems strange to me when people are not encouraged to spell properly.
For example; if I mention to someone a word is misspelled they seem to think I am criticizing them. That is not my intention at all. It is merely a habit for me to correct words.

I misspell all of the time (not on purpose). My mind gets way ahead of my fingers and they just can’t keep up.

I completely agree with you. There’s a girl at work (not sure how she got the job, but that’s beside the point). She constantly misspells. They are easy words too, such as “rediculous” and “histerical.” Once she asked me what was the difference between “affect” and “effect.” Like you said, when I point it out, she gets mad, and worst of all, she keeps doing it, as if nothing is wrong with misspelling. The apathy in young people today is dismal.
