An article about why I don’t like clothes shopping.
I have a phobia about buying clothes. I have always had this phobia. Even when I was young and slim the clothes would not fit me. I am five feet tall. I have seldom been able to buy a pair of slacks that did not need to be hemmed. Now I am fifty years old, the pants do not meet in the middle. It is as though I have a watermelon or basketball for a stomach. And the dressing room mirrors do not do any favors.
Shopping with my husband is both wonderful and terrible. All I need to do is pass by a clothing store and make a comment. He will insist on going in. He does not hesitate to find the sales clerk. Then it will be downhill from there. I know I will not be able to get out of the store without buying something. A lot of the clothes I buy do not fit or I hate because they are really tacky.
However clothes shopping isn’t all bad. Once or twice I find a piece of clothing that I really like. Often I volunteer at a charity event and I am given a free t-shirt.
Often it is easier for my husband to go shopping alone. He has pretty good taste.
