Some thoughts on a radio station malfunction.
Generally I have no qualms about how a station conducts its business once in fact I called because one of the moderators insulted a speaker when she was no longer giving her opinion. How could a moderator conduct himself like that? Lately I think that sometimes the moderators are more opinionated than they should be by not allowing a difference of an opinion from their own and that is not far on a program that invites debate.
When a radio station goes off the air because of technical difficulties perhaps one should just blame technology but there are people behind technology. Now if the radio station is a major Anglophone one and it is of the air for about five minutes and all you get is two ladies that chat in a broken tone as if they are not on microphone and one can hear a male voice saying you are on the air and another guy suggesting that music should be put on, I wonder about the quality of the transmission. That stuff should never happen on professional radio. Those words were followed by another pause without any recognition that the public had to hear the confusion, without an apology to the public and I still worried.
It was a local program with two lady moderators that chitchat about anything and everything. A moment later, one could hear the ladies saying that nothing is on; the monitor is not working without anybody saying to the public that there are technical difficulties and there was a technician or producer in recording room who recognized that the program was on the air. This is what you call gross inefficiency and a slight to the listening public.
This is too bad for a major Anglophone radio station, it appears that the station is not interested in the quality of their service and one should advise the listening public that there are technical difficulties from the start or put on a music recording right from the start. One does not have to hear confusion behind the scenes.
