Just a pretty simple solution to the problem of people not spending.

Back in 2000 George Bush was elected to one of the largest surpluses ever in the budget.  He didn’t spend it: he gave it bask. And that is one of the stupidest mistakes that he ever made.  The next year he started the war on terror, which is still going on today.  I think we really could have used the surplus then.  I mean do you really want to have $100 in your pocket and your country trillions of dollars in debt.  I know that I would choose to just avoid this.  And then the way he gave it back was even stupider.  What are you going to do when you get a couple hundred dollars back from the government? If you’re smart, you’re going to invest it.   So all of that money was just saved.  In an economy, saved money is one of the worst things around.  For the economy to run people have to spend money.  And when they get back a huge lump sum, they just aren’t going to do that.  So why do it that way?  The main logical way to do this would be to just lower taxes just a little. So when people find that they have just a bit of extra money they’re going to spend it.  So that’s about $400 per person.  Multply that by the 300 million people in the US and that’s another 240 BILLION dollars in the economy.  Remember that’s 240 BILLION dollars EVERY YEAR.  I think this would be much more effective than borrowing more oney from the Chinese.  Don’t you?
