You think you could walk in my shoes?

You think you could walk in my shoes
Take a trip down memory lane, on the coast of the blues

You think you know for a fact that it is so easy to be me
Once you take one step down the path I have been,
you would run as far as you can other way,
It would be that surprising

All those times that I wanted someone else’s life,
even for just a second in time
You would see right then and there that your past has not been like mine

You see the progress I am making and think I have got it under control
Many days I would tell you just the opposite,
It feels like someone has a hold of my soul

There is still darkness brewing deep down inside
Even down in corridors there is no safe place to hide

So, you think you could take a walk in my shoes
I don’t think that is something you would ever want to choose

I have literally walked miles in my partner’s shoes because they are so comfortable. We both also know what its like to be mentally challenged and we wouldn’t wish it on our worst enemies.

I love it, you have such a great flow and you convey great but dark images.

It’s unsettling to know someone dwells in his own self pity when there are so many others who have a more challenging life. Your poem makes that very clear. Excellent, moving piece. 0;)
