The admin team have announced the return of he quantity rewards scheme, but with an unfortunate twist.

do you recall, when you were so much younger than you are today, how there was an unspoken, but perfectly well understood code of honor among children, that you simply did not snitch on a perpetrator known to you, even at risk of getting punished yourself, because it simply was NOT the done thing?  Of course, as we get older and our attitudes mature, we tend to take a different view in adulthood, but remnants of that code of ethics always linger.

When I saw the announcement today of an August Special, I was glad to see that it looked like the admin team were actually getting on board with their writing contributors, re-introducing the concept of those willing to write more, and post more regularly, being worthy of some financial incentive, a very laudable sentiment, but there is a twist that should not sit well worth anybody, for what is being offered is 30 pieces of silver by another name.

You ONLY qualify for the extra 10% on your month’s earnings if you have used the new flag button 15 TIMES as well! I cannot imagine that the genuine users of this facility, of which there obviously are some, because admin are apparently pleased to see it being made use of, will find it easy to perform the act of flagging 15 posts in a month, because, while forum violations of spamming etc are easy to spot, those committed in the posts themselves seem much less so.

There is, naturally, the grave danger that some, desperate to qualify for that extra 10% of not very much anyway will start flagging posts like crazy, just to be sure of reaching targets, and some worthy and quite respectable writers could easily find themselves targeted unfairly. In my view, the admin team will be overwhelmed by ‘violation’ notifications, and the best-laid plans will end up in tatters because it was not well enough thought out to begin with.

If it becomes a necessary evil that dedicated contributors, wanting to see a big improvement in the fortunes of the site have to start pointing the finger, then so be it, but please do NOT turn this rather unsavory practice into a competition, where ethics, morality and sound judgement go out of the window in the quest for a prize. We are all surely better than that, and I feel that the admin team really are clutching desperately at straws in trying to rebuild site reputation by such means.

It is NOT wrong to blow the whistle on writing that breaks all the rules, and disregards the triond TOS, but that is only really applicable where no pressure exists to achieve certain goals. Big Brother tactics like this one are hardly likely to endear people to triond, so perhaps the admin team should re-think the strategies they want to see employed for putting the site back where it belongs. We are no doubt all more than willing to help achieve that aim, but there are limits, and boundaries we should never be asked to cross.

Tony, your article (much like the one I wrote this morning) screams out that this is just wrong! I truly believe it will be used inappropriately and many people will flag just to flag! They really need to do better than this!

Excellent article! Tony, I think you have again hit the nail squarely on the head! I have also aired my opinion on this unsavory practice! It’s the ones doing this flagging that’ll have the most to hide! At least that’s my personal opinion on the matter.

you are so right, as soon as i saw this incentitive i got worried, because i am very new to this site and what if someone decideds to target the newbies, because they dont want to tick off the people who have been here a longer time and have good reputations with their writing … and i will not go around flagging people for ten percent of my earnings lol all 1.oo of it lol

Once again Triond shows how truly unprofessional they are by offer this contest.
If triond can not or will not do its own policing of its own website what does that say for the site as a whole?
I will not participate in a contest so blatantly asinine. If this is the low standards that Triond is stooping to then perhaps I need to remove my articles and place them with a PROFESSIONAL WRITING GROUP.
I understand stopping those who are spamming, but what about the new writings looking for a platform to improve his or her writing quality.
I have said it before and I will say it again, Triond is a disgrace to the writing communities.

well said. this is exactly how I feel.

great article. I will not flag any articles

I have flagged one article on Trion – it was an article promoting a very unsavoury on-line practice which should not be encouraged at all. But I totally agree with you that this “contest” to promote the use of the flag button is not right. I will not participate. And will think very long and hard (which I did anyway) before flgagging an article. Thanks for this.

You have excellent points here Tony, Triond’s motive to cleanse its place of garbage is good, but the means to do it is unsavory. I may submit articles but not for the challenge.

    Very good.Marvellous.

  • Sheila Barnhill on Aug 1, 2011

Tony, once again you are so “on the nose”! Once again, Triond has shown irresponsibility as website owners.

  • Jenilia12 on Aug 1, 2011

This is definitely something to look into,..

  • Socorro Lawas on Aug 1, 2011

Flasgging may be transmuted to flogging. You are morally right in your view.

  • DR.VNS on Aug 1, 2011

    great points made.

  • Will Dee on Aug 1, 2011

You make an excellent point Tony I agree.

  • carolscash on Aug 1, 2011

I completely agree with you on this note. I will not be flagging articles just to get my extra 10% even though I need the money very badly. It seems wrong to me to encourage us to use it just to get a bonus!

I love to research and write what I hope is interesting content for posting on the web. Been writing for ten years now, with a lot of writing, from short stories, through articles and poetry, published all around the world and online. Writing is just so great.
