Adults can also suffer from acne.

Acne is often thought of as a teenage dilemma, & while it is true that acne appears most often during the teenage years, it is arguably as true that there is a growing number of individuals that suffer from adult acne.

Adults in their twenties, all the way up to their fifties can still experience acne flare-ups. Adult acne can have lots of negative effects on a person in the same manner as teenage acne. Possibly even more so, as the stress of career & relatives adds to the strain of living with an unsightly skin problem.

The environmental factors that surround a person, paired with the individuals lifestyle can also play a giant role in the appearance of adult acne. An improper diet or behaviors such as smoking & drinking affect the skin’s condition & resistance to acne, as well as other diseases.

Mental stress can be one of the major causes of acne in adults. It is not surprising in the slightest that women are often more likely to suffer from adult acne than men, as it is been shown that women have much more stress in their day to day lifestyle, not to mention that they are liable to hormonal imbalances, during times such as their menstrual cycle & pregnancy. As in teens, hormones play an important factor in the onset & exacerbation of adult acne.

Prevention is the only obvious way to go when dealing with adult acne. A proper diet, paired with lots of water & rest is a great start. Trying to relieve stress & maintaining proper skin care & hygiene can also help to prevent acne from occurring. But what about the pimples that you may already have? There are lots of treatments available for people who have adult acne.

Anti-acne medications, sure skin care products, and even laser surgery are one of the number of treatments available for acne on the market today. Visiting a qualified doctor or dermatologist is the only way to select how severe your acne is and to find the proper treatment available for you.

There are four factors that contribute to all acne, teenage and adult. These factors are: hormonal imbalance, retention hyperkeratosis (build up of dead skin cells), inflammation, and Propriani Acnes bacteria. As you age your skin cell turn over cycle slows down, resulting in an excess of dead skin that must be removed in order for the natural sebum to work it’s way to the surface of the skin and do it’s job- maintain a healthy balance to keep bacterial invaders out of the body. Also as you age your hormone levels can change, and when they do, you can get acne when skin was clear before. It is important to seek the consultation of a professional at the onset of adult acne to control symptoms and minimize scarring.
