This is an article I wrote about how to express our affections vs emotions.

Affection is a fond or tender feeling towards another, which is usually identified with emotion. Emotion is a strong feeling, a particular feeling as love or hate. In every day’s language, as if the fundamental difference between emotion and affections is that the emotion is something that takes place inside our moves, and ourselves, while affection is something that flows from one person to another, producing some emotions.

Affection is the expression of caring in one way or the other. It basically symbolizes security, protection comfort and approval, with not only another human being, but our pets as well. Without affection in our lives, we can feel very alienated. When you are not receiving affection it can turn into a negative emotion, it becomes personal and we take it personally. A deep hurt stays with our memories for a long time.

Affection helps us grow into better people; however, we are not able to show affection all alone. This will turn into an emotion that no one cares to feel. Explore the subject and think about your own past. Was affection modeled for you as a child by both your parents? Do you have an overly need for affection that has turned your emotions into play?

Affection is about improving an already good thing, keep taking it to a higher level of enjoyment. Affection should be filled with tender attachments and fondness.
