Where are the priorities in Congress?
Last month Congress voted to send 1.5 billion dollars in aid to Pakistan. The bill is sponsored by Senators John Kerry and Richard Lugor. It flew through the house and senate without problem. Perhaps that is because the Congress has been fighting over increasing taxes on our citizens, fighting over health care while pushing through their plan despite the overwhelming number of Americans saying they do not want it, delaying the decision to send help to our troops at war, and taking away Social Security and Medicare benefits from seniors, while vastly ignoring the number of unemployed Americans. There is a warped sense of concern over what is necessary and what is not. We are at war, not a war of choice but one of necessity to protect us from the terrorists who are daily attempting to murder our citizens. How many of these terrorists are included in the aliens we give financial assistance to, pay for their education and protect their rights? Where are the rights of the American people? Pakistan is saying they don’t want the money because there are too many conditions on it. Maybe we can keep it and allow seniors to receive the much needed annual increase in benefits and keep some of the Medicare benefits to be taken away. They might even consider sending the additional forces requested in Afghanistan before more of our soldiers are murdered. Can we focus here?
