Isn’t there something about all the Americans and American movies that’s just different from European nature?

You are probably wondering (especially if you are American) what the hell is she trying to say, hm? Firstly I should reveal I am from Slovakia. Little unimportant country in the heart of the Europe. My friends from a bigger countries and mainly from U.S. are puzzled at first, when I tell them where do I live. But Slovakia is normal civilized democratic republic. We have most of the things you have:

MacDonald’s and big shopping centers, iPods, laptops, … and we are very well informed about the happenings in the world.

Alright now, enough about the Slovakia.

I have many friends who went to U.S. to study or live and they all felt the same thing. Americans are somehow different. They… (sorry for interruption but i have to do this before I really start writing: using they doesn’t mean I think all the Americans have to be like this) talk as though from a movie. I have to turn off the television sometimes when I watch an American movie. They just don’t talk normally. Top three sentences you will hear in the American movie:

  1. I love you. (there often is more than life or forever added. Even in a normal life, how many times do you use this sentence in one day? My maximum is twice, but I’ve got a feeling that it is the most used sentence in U.S.)
  2. ….I promise. (they really give more promises then they can keep)
  3. I will never….(do you use this phrase in a normal life? I don’t…)

Well, it seems to me, they need to evoke a bigger and grand emotions, than we need. But than… who are we? I cannot say that U.K. for instance isn’t getting closer to this emotions-filled behavior. I can talk only about people I meet everyday and I tell you, they certainly don’t act so affected. Take it or not, I really think there is something false about that behavior of theirs.

I don’t know… maybe there’s something to it, but nations differ – it’s known fact.
