An Insomniac’s Contribution
By: Chelsea Arsenal
If I tell you the story straight, it would not be complicated, but it would not be interesting either. One of my friends was diagnosed with insomnia, and one day I accompanied her to the doctor’s clinic. On my right is a man like on his 40’s, balding, with deep dark lines on his eyes, said to me, “sometimes I stay up so late that I have my morning coffee before I go to bed,” and he smiled weakly. The one on my left was my friend, but now that she is inside the clinic and somebody took her seat.
I did not know how boring it is sitting outside the clinic, waiting to be called and so on. People come and go, pass by the hallway back and forth. Everything makes me dizzy. I can hear a lot of complains also – mostly about sleeping difficulties.
The middle aged man talked to me again and with our conversation, I found out that he has a couple of businesses in the country. He said, “Money can not buy me sleep, but because of money I was able to consult a doctor to help regarding this matter and because of money I was able to buy myself a very nice bed where I experience the best sleeps of my life.” And I noticed the smile on his face now is slightly bigger than earlier, because the lines at the side of his lips are deeper.
