This Marble Monument
Is Erected by the State)

Although considered to the mass population to be a modern citizen with an opinion that is conducive to the record; he is a human. Humans have problems, whether internal or external, they exist. This poem shows the dissociative structure of government, and the careless overlooking of their duties. Due to the very general reports given by several organizations, the life of a man may seem, in case, “normal.”

A sardonic overtone is thrown upon the entire statement throughout the poem, blanketing it with the last two lines of the stanza. The twisted sarcasm is used for the almost “fluffing off the shoulder” sort of tone; as to which, he was not free, he was not happy, and everything was wrong. In an almost interrogative syllogism of antipodal states leading up to the final conclusion of the government not caring to even find these multiples of this man’s life, we are left with a bitter taste that makes the reader think of how s/he is being “taken care of.”

In personal outlooks, I feel that due to the capitalistic society we have so brought to animation, that “caring,” is just not a part of our government’s social contract. Every man fights for himself, and that’s the way that we intended it to be. When people end up paying the tolls for constructing this government, they start wondering what it would be like if the government actually cared for the entity who put them in power.
