My opinions on music and self-abuse, and whether or not they have a connection.
From my experience, I have always found that some music can have an influence on how I am feeling. To me, music is my everything. I’m not the kind of person who just listens to it for the beat, or for background noise. I am one of those people who falls in love with the lyrics.
These type of songs aren’t generally liked much, or get into the charts, and the artists don’t make them for the money, they make them to connect with people.
Many of my songs never get into the UK top 40, and yet they are the best songs I have ever heard. Compare these lyrics and work out which you like best, and find the most impressive.
“Show me what it’s like, to dream in black and white, so I can leave this world – tonight.” taken from Unknown Soldier by Breaking Benjamin.
“In my field of paper flowers, and candy clouds of lullaby, I lie inside myself for hours, and watch my purple sky fly over me.” Taken from Imaginary by Evanescence.
“If only you could see, the stranger next to me, you promised, you promised, that you’re done. But I can’t tell you from the drugs. I wish that you could see, this face in front of me, you’re sorry, you swear it, you’re done, but I can’t tell you from the drugs.” Taken from Drugs Or Me by Jimmy Eat World.
“Comparisions are easily done, once you’ve had a taste of perfection. Like an apple hanging from a tree, I picked the ripest one, I still got the seed.” Taken from Thinking Of You by Katy Perry.
“Just dance, gonna be okay, da-doo-doo, just dance, spin that record babe, da-doo-doo.” Taken from Just Dance by Lady Gaga.
“She ain’t no hoe, look at those thighs, it’s in her eyes, She’s good to go, She can satisfy my mind, body and soul, Come and dance wiv me…” taken from Dance Wiv Me by Dizzee Rascal ft. Calvin Harris.
These are just a few. But you can see how different the lyrics are.
So don’t just go for a song just because everybody else likes it. Is it really amazing, or just overated?
