Any man who hates babies and dogs can’t be all bad.

“Any man who hates babies and dogs can’t be all bad.”
Leo Rosten hit the nail on the head when he once mused, “Any man who hates babies and dogs can’t be all bad.” Some of the world’s greatest leaders have remained childless, while our more villainous ones have gone onto lead and then spawn the next generation of villainy.

George Washington, arguably one of America’s greatest presidents, kept his seed to himself and led America through the mess that was War of Independence. Britain’s Margaret Thatcher, gave birth and introduced Poll Tax, which caused wide-spread rioting in the streets. A few years later and we find her son Mark paraded in shackles on television after attempting to overthrow the government of a third world African nation.

Not having a baby or a dog is a choice that should be applauded. Think of it from an environmental point of view. Fewer babies and dogs mean less flatulence and hence less of those gasses that are slowly eroding our ozone layers. “Don”t make babies or have pets,’ should be the rallying cry of Greenies everywhere.

And what about the threat of overpopulating the Earth? It’s not going to get any better if people keep churning out babies or if Paris Hilton keeps snapping up the latest designer dog to keep in her Prada handbag, which already seems overpopulated.

The Chinese seem to be onto a good thing with their one-child policy. They also eat cats and dogs, so maybe it’s time other countries followed suit? After all a few less Americans – the world’s greatest polluters – running around the place wouldn’t do too much harm.

And let’s face it, the man who has no baby or dog to look after is the envy of all those men who do. The childless, dogless man is spending his excess cash on flash holidays, a nice car, or other presents for himself. Meanwhile the man left holding the baby, with a dog leash in one hand, spends all his money on diapers and doggie dinners.

So Leo Rosten got it right, for a man who hates babies and dogs is not all bad. In fact he has more sense and money than the man who does, and is in no small way helping to care for the environment. Would George Washington have secured America’s independence if he had to worry about changing diapers or taking the dog for a walk? I doubt it, and who knows what would have happened if Margaret Thatcher had kept her legs closed; maybe Poll Tax may never have happened and the Cold War could have ended sooner.
