Do you remember the Dodo birds which are extinct since 1681 because people beat it with a stick? The Dodo birds were defenseless since they were flightless and very weak which made it easier to kill them. WE were beating up these Dodo Birds only because we thought they were dumb and we got our pleasure in beating them up. I don’t understand one thing, how can anyone get pleasure in killing someone? With the Dodo bird, one more thing that went extinct was the Calvaria Tree since the tree relied on the dodo bird to spread its seeds. The Dodo bird would eat the fruit from the Calvaria Tree and it couldn’t digest it. So it would come out as waste, which is how the seeds were spread. We thought that the Dodo birds were foolish but actually we are so foolish. First we say that everyone should learn from their mistakes and then we repeat the same mistake ourselves. It’s true because first we tortured the Dodo birds with a stick until they died and now we are torturing the baby seals with a club waiting for them to die. Actually we have done this mistake many times. We have lost so many precious and important species like the Pyrenean Ibex, Hawaiian Crow, Holdridge’s Toad, the Golden Toad, Baiji Dolphin, West African Black Rhino and many other species. Tomorrow another name might be added to this list of extinct animals called the seal. Can we afford to lose another group of precious species?

     Many people don’t know that their gloves or boots are made up of dead seals that were tormented in a horrible way. Those people wouldn’t want to have boots or gloves like that. If you are reading this essay and you just realized that you are also one of those people, then from now on you should boycott waterproof gloves and seal skin boots. For those people who don’t have these things, they should never buy them. This will reduce business for those people who torture seals and eventually they will stop doing this terrible profession. Well it won’t stop the seal slaughter but it sure will decrease it. We need to do everything possible to stop this horrible thing from happening. Infact, Europe and the United States of America have already put a ban to all seal products. We have made a beginning already but now we really have to act before the seals go extinct. Europe and America have started saving the seals, now it’s your turn.

     When a human’s child is physically tortured or murdered, then the murderer gets the severest punishment possible, but if a seal’s child is physically tortured then the murderer gets a reward. How is that fair? We can’t just keep torturing animals and using them for our comforts. Think about how helpless the newborn seal’s parents must’ve felt looking at their child suffering in agony and they just couldn’t do anything to save them. How would you feel if you saw your child suffering in pain and you couldn’t save them?  The newborn seals didn’t even have a chance to live their lives. What was their fault? This makes me so depressed that just for waterproof gloves and seal skin boots we are becoming murderers.  We are repeating the same mistake of killing a precious group of species over and over again. Wake up! Now its time for us to take an action. Let’s stop buying these gloves and boots which were once drenched in a seal’s blood. We don’t need those horrible things. Don’t let the seals go extinct. BAN CANADIAN SEAL SLAUGHTER!
